Behind the Scenes at ChrysalisEmbarassing Bloggy Bloopers

What does e-Mom Blogger have in common with Beth Moore, other than a lot of e’s, o’s, M’s, and B’s?

We’re both Moms, we’re both human, and we both make mistakes!

The lovely Jana at Later I’m Blogging, tagged me for this meme. I’ve decided to take this opportunity to air my blogging dirty laundry.

Would you laugh with me? Maybe you’ve done a few of these dumb things too.

1.     This week, I blogged about grandparents during the holidays. I mentioned Vicki’s grand daughter Lexie (Windows to My Soul) and stated she was three. Suddenly Vicki appeared in the Chrysalis comment box and gently corrected me. This new believer is actually five. Oiy!

2.     A few days ago, I left a comment at The Next Step thanking Tammy for linking up with Marriage Monday. As I hit “publish,” suddenly I remembered she spells her name Tami. Whoops, my bad.

3.     Laura Christianson is the author of two adoption books. In my recent interview, I posted a cool photo show about her family, but I couldn’t figure out how to turn off the embedded music. Every time a reader uploaded my blog, they were assaulted by a crazy upbeat tune that played over and over. Unfortunately, I had to send two very disgruntled commentors to the trash. Ouch!

4.     A few months ago, I quoted a very serious article about the Emerging Movement by Scott Mcnight. Robin at PENSIEVE quietly pointed out that his name is actually spelled Scot McNight. (Who would notice?)

Edit: A little clarification is in order. Robin probably never knew she had helped me out. In her comment on that Scot McKnight post, she had correctly spelled his name with one “t” and duh, I noticed! I thought she was so subtle… Thanks, my friend!

5.     Last year, when I was still using comment moderation, I immediately responded by e-mail to some warm thoughts left by Iris at Laced With Grace. She later returned to Chrysalis and kindly remarked that she couldn’t find her comment anywhere. In my enthusiasm, I’d forgotten to publish it. (Visitors do remember.)

6.     I don’t know how many times I’ve written a lengthy “intelligent” comment on a meaty post only have it eaten by the bloggy monsters before I’ve had a chance to hit publish. By then I’m all out of energy, and must simply type “Thanks for sharing” before I slink away. Sigh.

How about you? Have you made any whopping bloggy bloopers?

With love,

e-Mom

P.S. If you’re new here, please visit me at my primary blog, Chrysalis. See you over there!

P.P.S. I’m going to tag the five bloggers named above: Vicki, Tami, Laura, Robin, and Iris to play along. But ladies, only if you have the time.

  1. Gee, did I really correct you? Please tell me I did it via e-mail (btw, if I DO ever tell a bloggity friend about a typo, it really is because I like ‘em, think they’re GREAT bloggers, and would hope they’d “quietly” do the same for me). I HATE typos of my own, but I’m very forgiving of others–theirs don’t bother me a bit (but if I think they’d wanna know, I tell ‘em if I see ‘em).

    I’ll work on the tag :) .

  2. Jana Says:

I once deleted a comment from my brother-in-law because I thought it was just some anonymous jerk (I think he was just trying to be funny).

  3. One time I was at Spiritually Unequal Marriage and typed a great comment to Lynn, then after it published I realized it was Dineen who wrote it!
I also have written the best comments only to find them gone and my mind cannot retrieve those thoughts.

  4. Robin: See my edit in the post, my friend. Hugs!

Jana: I don’t like anonymous comments either. :~D

Heather: LOL, I’ve done the same thing! I now pay closer attention over at SUM. BTW, it’s nice to meet you.

  5. Jen Says:

e-Mom, I probably make a lot more Blog Bloopers than I realize, but one I do recall. I wrote a sensitive post about leaving our church earlier this year. After I initially posted it, I made about 10 revisions! I had no idea, being a brand new blogger, that anyone who got an RSS feed from me would receive all those revisions! I’ve since deleted the thing altogether. I’m pretty non-techy (even though I have an uber-techy husband), and still don’t take advantage of things like RSS feeds, so I don’t even think about them…obviously!

  6. Jen Says:

Hey, that last comment is from diaryof1! I think I’m logged in under my “other” blog, possibly, because I’ve never seen my picture show up before – weird! Anyway, if my URL shows up as “savedinsports.wordpress.com” that’s really me. :-)

  7. Tami Says:

When I think of blogging bloopers I am reminded of a colossal blunder that nearly cost me a friendship last year, so I’d rather not go there, okay?

How about six random things? I’ll just list them for you here. I’m not sure anyone else would be that interested.

    1. In a weird fluke of events, I actually auditioned for what ended up being an Academy Award winning movie, “Terms of Endearment”. I didn’t get the part.

    2. My husband dated me and my best friend at the same time for a while. It got to be too hard on my friendship so I told my friend, “He’s not that important to me. I’m not going to date him anymore.”

    3. I love the color purple.

    4. Lately I wish I didn’t feel things so deeply.

    5. I have never lived more than one hour away from where I grew up.

    6. I love the quiet.

  8. Jennifer: Lol, I’ve done that so many times too… Fortunately, (it seems) subscribers are very forgiving.
I noticed your photo on a previous comment too. Fun!

Tami: It’s fascinating that you auditioned for a movie! (I’d love to know more about your acting career!)

My Mom took me to see Terms of Endearment. She was an actress, and she actually looked very much like Shirley McLean (red hair). Come to think of it, my kids and I were in an indie film as extras. Also, I landed in a gig in a Chinese TV mini-series, and actually earned $100! :~D

Your list is very telling. Glad you got your man! Please do publish this at your blog. Your readers really will love it. :~D

  9. Wendell Says:

I’m fairly new to the world of blogging but the bloopers are adding up. Recently I posted an entry that was full of spelling mistakes. Then I couldn’t figure out how spell check worked. Finally on the third try I got it fixed.
In the same entry I also didn’t spell the name of a friend correctly.

  10. I hear you! It takes to correct all those typos. Welcome to blogdom! :~D
